So I have not only birthed a baby over the last few months, I have now birthed a blog! This is completely new territory for me and I’m a little nervous putting myself out there, if you’re reading this – thanks so much for clicking and supporting me!
I chose the term My Mum Friend as I am so fortunate to have quite a few other mum friends doing this with me and I have learnt so much from them (more than any baby book!). When talking with my husband I think I say “my mum friend” ten times a day: “my mum friend told me about this new technique” or “my mum friend told me about this book” etc. So I thought I can pass on my learnings and I can be your mum friend.
Here are a few reasons for creating this blog and what I hope to achieve:
- I wanted to create a memoir for myself and also Olivia when she grows up: You hear it all the time.. They grow up so fast. It’s not very often you get a whole year off to look after a little human. I know this year is going to go by so fast, it already has, I can’t believe I have been on maternity leave for almost 5 months now! Unless you are great at journaling it’s also not often you get to record and document their growth and development regularly. This memoir is for us to look back on, also one day when/if I have a second child I can re-read this and see what my learnings are month to month and maybe even have a head start when raising the next one, well that’s the idea anyway!
- I love sharing my learnings: Over the last year from pregnancy to giving birth throughout the last year. I have found friends have reached out to me, some friends I haven’t spoken to in years, to ask me for advice. I found myself sending them lengthy emails of what I have learnt or what I recommend. So why not share this with more people and expand my reach!
- I have found I am obsessed with anything baby related!: I’m quite a researcher, when it comes to buying something, or trying a new technique I am also a bit of a spreadsheeter. Not ashamed to say I often put information I find into spreadsheets – so why not pass on my research to see if I can help others (potentially other spreadsheeters). Throughout this last year, I have found some information quite hard to find, or I have found you have to dig through numerous websites to piece together information you need. Hopefully I can pass on some of my digging and help provide clarity for new mums.
- I want to start something that’s mine: Hopefully this doesn’t sound selfish, but after spending all day looking after the needs of another human being. I wanted to do something that was all mine and is going to challenge me, excite me, motivate me.. and prevent me from spending too much time on Netfilx!
- Connect with other mums: I love meeting fellow mum friends and I especially have found I have gotten so much out of connecting with mums who are in the same position and has a baby the same age as me (shout out to my inner west mums!). My dream would be for this to grow into a community of mum friends to connect.
Lastly I feel I have to say this disclaimer, I am definitely not a baby expert! I love Olivia, but she is not an angel baby. I have not done everything perfectly and she is a super advanced walking and talking human at age 4 months! No way! I’m going to keep things real with you, I have made many mistakes you will be seeing my highs and my lows. My tips/suggestions may not work for you and that’s ok. Every baby is different and they all have their own styles and ways of doing things. I would be so happy if even one piece of my advice can help you or just entertain you for all my non mamas out there.
I would appreciate it so much if you would support me and follow me on this journey whatever is the best way for you. You can follow me on Facebook/Pinterest/Instagram:
